The mission
of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is to eradicate breast cancer as a
life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening and
treatment. Affiliates of Komen for the Cure represent one of the nation's
largest private funding sources for breast health and breast cancer screening,
education, treatment and support programs.
To
date, the Lubbock Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure has granted more
than $1.4 million to help local non-profit agencies with projects related the
education, treatment and screening of breast cancer.

2009 Grant Applications Avaliable Soon
Komen
for the Cure Lubbock Affiliate is seeking proposals for innovative breast
health/breast cancer education, screening and treatment projects as described in
the Request for Proposal (RFP).
Projects should be targeted to the medically under-served in the 16-county
affiliate service area.
Our
ability to fund these projects stems from the success of the Lubbock Race for
the Cure, Swing for the Cure, Cuts for the Cure and other Affiliate annual
events dedicated to a world without breast cancer.
The
next funding period will be for April 1, 2009 through March 31,
2010.
Grant Qualification Checklist:
1.
Serve the Komen 16-county service area (Lubbock, Bailey, Cochran, Cottle,
Crosby, Dickens, Floyd, Garza, Hale, Hockley, Kent, Lamb, Lynn, Motley, Terry
and Yoakum)
2.
Considerations are for non-profit organizations
3.
Complete and submit required forms (see RFP below)
4.

Pink for
Breast Cancer

Casting
for Recovery (CFR) is a wonderful opportunity for one female breast
cancer survivor to attend a weekend JUST FOR HER.
CFR
is a Support & Educational Program that provides no-cost
fly-fishing retreats specifically tailored for women who have or have
had breast cancer. Texas women of all ages and in all stages of breast cancer treatment
and recovery are invited to apply.
There
are 14 spots available for the
2008 Texas
retreat, and Komen Lubbock has approved the small grant to
allow two survivors from our 16-county area to attend.
The deadline to apply is Friday, February 8, 2008. Soon, after, the Casting for Recovery panel will randomly draw a winner from the Lubbock Area applicants.

The
weekend incorporates fly fishing to promote physical and emotional
healing. It's a wonderful opportunity to connect with other women,
enjoy the beauty of the outdoors and learn a new sport! No fishing experience required!
The
event will take place April 18-20, 2008 at Joshua Creek Ranch,
Boerne
,
TX (just outside of San Antonio).
The
grant covers all expenses other than travel to and from the
location.
