Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the world's largest breast cancer organization, awarded more than $100 million in research grants last year, representing the largest single-year investment in research in the organization's 30-year history and a 30 percent increase over the previous year’s award total of $77 million. The 2011-2012 grants slate moves Komen for the Cure closer to accomplishing its goal of investing another $2 billion in breast cancer research and community health programs by 2017.
Any not-for-profit organization that provides breast health and/or breast cancer education, screening, or treatment services may apply for a grant.
The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Mission is to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Affiliates of Komen for the Cure represent one of the nation's largest private funding sources for breast health and breast cancer screening, education, treatment and support programs.
To date, the Lubbock Area Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure has invested more than $3.8 million to help local non-profit agencies with projects related to breast health and/or breast cancer education, treatment, screening and support.
In fiscal year 2013-2014, the Lubbock Area Affiliate will grant over $190,000.00 to its local service area. Up to 75 cents of each dollar raised by the Lubbock Area Affiliate remains in the Lubbock Affiliate’s 16-County service area to help fund local breast health screening, treatment and education programs. The Lubbock Area Affiliate sends the remaining 25 cents to Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s National Research Program.
Additionally, the Lubbock Area Affiliate has contributed $1 million to Susan G. Komen for the Cure's Research Program.
Our ability to fund these projects stems from the success of the Lubbock Area Affiliate’s Race for the Cure, and other Affiliate annual events dedicated to a world without breast cancer.
The next funding period is April 1, 2014 through March 31, 2015. Requests for Applications (RFA's) are due Friday, December 13, 2013 by 4:00pm.
