Funding Priorities

The Lubbock Area Affiliate establishes funding priorities and Statement of Needs by conducting a Community Profile needs assessment every two years. Applicants are encouraged to develop their programs with these needs in mind.

Areas of Priority

  • Provide patients with screening mammography, clinical breast exams and instructions on how to perform breast self-exams, especially women who are among minority and indigent populations.
  • Increase services for women that will support the patient care continuum model (i.e. rescreening, diagnostic, travel assistance, patient navigation etc)
  • Increase awareness and utilization of non-mammography screening services for all women during and after treatments (i.e. genetic testing and lymphedema)
  • Provide “gap” funding for women who are insured but underserved
  • Provide services for women not eligible for the Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer Program (BCCCP); women under the age of 40 and over the age of 65
  • Increase funding for women needing assistance with treatment services
  • Increase support programs for patients undergoing treatment and for post treatment patients including: end-of-life, after life support for families, survivorship etc
  • Strengthen education efforts in rural areas, among minority populations and young women (ages 18-40)
  • Increase program and funding knowledge among primary care physicians and health care providers
  • Provide counseling services, support and education for patients and families

Please note: Susan G. Komen for the Cure is not a direct service provider. We do not provide funds directly to individuals for screening or treatment, nor do we make referrals, determine who is eligible for screening and treatment.
